  I've managed to get the ios device mirrored to my computer (PC). When I chromecast to a TV, and try to turn my iphone into landscape mode - it doesn't show that way on the TV or my PC.

  I'm connected through my ipad to a tcl tv. I can play music fine but when I open up youtube to play video or play video from my itunes, its says "airplay connected" and video or sound doesn't play..??

    Due to the encryption policy of the platform, some third-party apps cannot be directly mirrored. But you can use the way introduced in this post to do that: https://www.apowersoft.com/community/topic/tutorial-how-to-mirror-youtube-videos-from-iphone-to-pc.html.

  Do I also need to have the app installed on the Samsung smart tv ? If so how do I do that ?
